Until 1990 my studio was located in NYC, where I was fascinated by the richness of the imagery of the citys social life. All of my work then was imagery of the city: the intensity of people, the night life interiors, the streets in the day, the movement, light, and color all in constant sway.
These paintings are the exploration of the way the city converges energy and nature. I painted interior designed spaces that people inhabit, and also outside spaces, in the confusing but luminous night. Where are all these people going? Who are they? What are their intricate details? That grabbed me in a way that's inexplicable. Perhaps looking for guideposts to live my own life; a mystery to explore.
